Yellow Bold and Checkered Blue: Engagement Monday

This week's engagement session is one of my favorites--my own. These were taken a little over a year ago in  February of 2011. My fiance and I were living in Provo, UT so the pictures were taken at the Riverwoods shopping center. I'm usually not much of a bright colors person, but I love the vibrant reds, yellows, and blues in our engagement pictures. We couldn't have picked a more perfect location. Our photographer was my very talented cousin, Rachel Dunston, who made the shoot so much fun and did an amazing job.

Rachel chose this fantastic red door to take some of our first pictures next to. It contrasts perfectly with my yellow jacket and Quinn's blue shirt.

It was just a leg-poppin' kind of kiss.

Even though I sometimes feel incredibly unnatural when photographers tell me to act natural, they've got to do it because the pictures that aren't posed are often the ones you love the most--like this shot. This will be framed in our home for years to come.

Yet another door step scene. Pun intended. We were able to find someone's home that matched our outfits exactly. How could we resist?

I absolutely adore my ring! It is perfect for me in every way. Also, I'm glad I didn't have any chipping nail polish that day even though I didn't know there would be such a close-up of my hand. It's important not to forget the details like your fingernails and jewelry.

We tried so hard to get some good serious faces, but we're just not the serious type. We ended up with a couple good ones, though, so don't be afraid to try something new or uncomfortable for you when you take your engagements. It end up making the best picture out of all of them.

Our wardrobe change was simple--I took off my jacket. But it was great because it changed the color scheme entirely and gave us a great variety of pictures.

I know you might be thinking I'm a nut job for wearing sandals in the middle of winter, but that's just what I wear most days because I just hate shoes. I think I just wore them out of habit, but I'm glad that a little bit of my personality comes out in the subtleties of my wardrobe.

Just like you would match your own clothes to your eyes or skin tone, I chose to match my fiance's clothes to my eyes. And this is exactly why. Not only does he look good in blue, but I look my best standing next to him--especially since my white shirt doesn't add a lot of color.

We chose not to have formal pictures for our engagements, but we wanted our announcements to look somewhat formal, so we kept in mind that these pictures would be going out with them and I at least made sure that my fiance had a button down shirt and I had some shots with a fabulous pea coat that I borrowed from my roommate so that our pictures would still match the theme of our invitations.

  1. That is EXACTLY what I was going to say Becky--- You crazy woman wore FLIPFLOPS in the middle of WINTER in PROVO?! lol Your poor feet! Ack! I tell my brides to bring flip flops if they are wearing heels so their feet don't hurt, but not to wear them as their primary footwear choice- I'm so glad you weren't in pain! lol I'm glad you took these at Riverwoods- I've always wanted to get a look at this place! My friend went here for some christmas celebration thing last year or the year before and it sounded so neat, so I guess I have had my peek now!

LOVE your ring too. It's very similar to what I picked out.
